Wise Wick Community Research Project

Social isolation and loneliness is recognised as a problem for individuals as well as communities and is a cause of serious health problems.
Staying socially connected as we age, not only increases our well-being and quality of life but means that we can keep sharing the good stuff with our friends and neighbours.
Wick Award Community Researchers are talking to people in Hackney Wick to find out more about the experience of social isolation and ways to keep active and connected in Hackney Wick. We would love to talk to you.

Hackney Wick Town Hall

Wick Award has backed  an initiative to connect local residents to tackle local issues and explore solutions.

Hackney Wick Town Hall sessions took place in October at Trowbridge Seniors’ Hall and in December at The Old Baths, facilitated by local activist, Gil Wildman and supported by young people from Hackney Wick Youth Voice, the sessions brought residents together to talk about issues including;
road safety, affordable work-space, the impact of gentrification and pollution.

Winter Warmer

over 900 hundred residents from across Hackney attended the Winter Warmer on the 27 November.

Residents got the opportunity mingle with neighbors and find out about the different services and activities accessible to them in the borough.

The infamous event saw a packed schedule that involved a pop up afternoon tea club, a panto performance of Cindyrella.

Gascoyne 2 crafters ran by Debbie and Sharon led a crafting  workshop at the popular event that was a hit amongst residents.

Alongside a complementary hot soup and bread rolls, residents had the opportunity to pick up good bags from one of the 30 stall holders that were at the event.
