Wick Award has backed  an initiative to connect local residents to tackle local issues and explore solutions.

Hackney Wick Town Hall sessions took place in October at Trowbridge Seniors’ Hall and in December at The Old Baths, facilitated by local activist, Gil Wildman and supported by young people from Hackney Wick Youth Voice, the sessions brought residents together to talk about issues including;
road safety, affordable work-space, the impact of gentrification and pollution.

Strictly Trowbridge

The Trowbridge Seniors Tea dance is becoming an institution.

This Christmas the focus was on the Classic Viennese Waltz. Mr Chan and his dance team led the way as members of the community joyfully followed along. Wick Award used this opportunity to promote our new community research project looking at the experience of older people in the ward.

Chair disco starting Friday 2nd November

A new fun fitness class has proved popular with residents.
Weekly Chair Disco sessions are being hosted at Adelaide Court every Friday morning at 10.30 am. The sessions are free and fun and a great way to get active and meet new people.
One Adelaide Court resident said – “This class has been a hit. I love the music – you can’t help yourself going just a little bit wild”.

Trowbridge Silver Surfers

Wick Award funded the Trowbridge Silver Surfers Sessions project between October- January 2018. The Silver surfers sessions organised by Echo, delivered 8 IT training to 15+ learners aged 50+  engaging 20+ volunteers at Trowbridge Community Center.

The aim of this project was to increase the skills and confidence of learners, whilst informing and opening access to benefits of the internet. As well as building community connections.

The project was successful as the sessions were deliver over a 12 week period to over 20 older learners, supported  by 23 volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
